Kill your Darlings!

Writing a book is like having a baby – except gestation usually takes much longer. So final edits, just before the book goes to production, can be terrifying things indeed. An editor’s fresh eyes are vital, yet their pen can potentially tear an author’s ego and heart to shreds in one foul swoop.

But when brilliantly talented editor and author Dianne Blacklock worked her magic on my second family drama Things We Cannot See, to be released by HarperCollins Impulse 1st January, 2017, she had me at Chapter 1. Her editing skills made me putty in her hands. I gotta say, I am really excited.  I think you are going to looove this book.

Oh –and the mug is my favourite, given to me by my friend Ruth when HarperCollins published my debut novel, What Matters Most, on 1st April last year. Every author needs a friend like Ruth. And every author loves a clever yet gentle editor like Dianne Blacklock.
